Real Estate ‘Super-Agent’ Educates Community Through New Book

Written by The LA Sentinal

Throughout her nine year career a thorough and innate knowledge of money and people has aided Lisa Puerto in her quest to help community members achieve their dream of homeownership. Rarely comfortable with the here and now, Puerto recently set her sights on helping her people overcome a hurdle that’s rarely talked about: generational wealth.

Puerto, who has been a sales agent with Team Equity LA Property and Management Incorporated for 6 years, helping many people achieve their dream of home ownership.

And now she’s an author.

After years of educating and helping first time homebuyers, many of whom are African American, Puerto realized that she could also help people build knowledge after they’ve purchased a home.

So she decided to take her knowledge and write the first real estate book for young adults and youth entitled, “Real Estate 100: The Teen Home Buying Experience”.

“Even when we have ownership we feel that that’s it, that’s all that’s required,” she said.

As a result, quite a bit of generational wealth and knowledge is lost, she says.

In fact, it turns out that there’s a great deal of knowledge needed when it comes to maintaining a home, growing wealth and leaving something of value behind to our loved ones.

Whether it’s life insurance or a living trust, Puerto’s book offers solid advice on a myriad of real estate matters through a crash course in financial literacy.

The kid friendly book takes the reader through a whirlwind of animated text messages, and true false questions that aim to put a creative spin on an important topic.

For Puerto, the youth was an obvious target demographic because “they’re the next one’s up.”

Puerto, who has clients living and looking for homes everywhere from Leimert Park to Inglewood, surmises that about 70% of her clientele is Black.

For years she’s helped families achieve their dream of home ownership, and her around the clock service has turned many of her clients into friends and family.

For Puerto, however, the best part of her job is helping people to learn.

“I’m clearly passionate about sharing what I know with others,” she said.

And that’s exactly what Puerto hopes to do with her book.

“I’ve always believed that the information I know is no good to me if I’m not sharing it with others,” she said.

Although the book is aimed at youth, Puerto notes that it can also be utilized by anyone looking for more information on the real estate.

“Parents have excitedly asked me if they could buy this book for their children in their 20s or 30s and my response has been ‘Absolutely!”

For Puerto, providing knowledge to those who need it most is the next step in repairing the future for those that are set to inhabit it.
