Bahamian Pot finds new home in the Liberty City neighborhood

Written by The Miami Times

Bahamian Pot Restaurant, a fixture in Liberty City, has moved a bit east to 6301 NW Sixth Ave., behind the McDonalds, near the I-95 overpass at Northwest 62nd Street. Owner Trudy Ellis said she is happy with the new location. One recent Wednesday, most of her offerings had sold out a little past 5 p.m.

The nautical-themed restaurant has seating for more than 30 guests. The restaurant has received numerous accolades including a visit from food aficionado Anthony Bourdain. Ellis said she survived several local and national economic downturns since opening in 1988 because of the flavor and consistency of the food she puts out.

Ellis still serves up native Bahamian dishes such as boil fish and grits for breakfast and offers conch fried, steamed or frittered for lunch and dinner. Save room for the guava duff cake, a guava deliciousness covered in a sweet, warm buttery sauce.

Ellis said when she opened Bahamian Pot on Northwest 54th Street a box of conch was $5. “That same box of conch costs $60, today, the same box.”
