With the downward trend of the construction industry prominently ruling South Florida for the past few years, the industry is breathing a sigh of relief. On Saturday, July 30, the members of and affected by the trade gathered at the Hilton Miami Airport for the Contractor's Choice Awards presented by CRC Leadership.
City of Miami Gardens Mayor Oliver Gilbert bestowed the "Golden Hammer Award," the evening's top honor, to city of Miami Commission Chairman Keon Hardemon. Gilbert congratulated Hardemon on his service to his hometown. Hardemon was honored for going beyond what is expected and for his dedication to the underserved on major projects.
The Lifetime Commitment Award went to veteran industry leader, Jackie Bell. Bell, known for her positive impact to the industry, graciously encouraged attendees to make their voices heard at the polls, starting with the primary election, Aug. 30.
Bell didn't say who particularly to vote for but instead encouraged each attendee to research the candidates … to look into the history of each candidate in an effort to determine their background before going to the polls to cast your vote.
The Corporate Image Award went to the de Moya Group. The de Moya Group was recognized as the first recipient of this award. For many years, the de Moya Group played a significant role in support of many causes in the community. Armando de Moya, the company’s founder, is said to epitomize the spirit and essence of corporate responsibility.
The Contractor’s Choice Awards also acknowledged industry wide outstanding performers who work hard to ensure that the job they are charged to perform is done in the most professional way. Whether this professional works as an inspector, or a project manager, or an engineer, they never lose sight of their duty to work for the citizens of the South Florida community. They leave a lasting impression on the businesses they serve.
